Cronometer, made by Cronometer Software Inc., is known for detailed nutrient tracking and for a free plan that still includes the barcode scanner. We make Calorix, a competing app, so every fact on this page comes from Cronometer’s own website, help centre, terms or App Store listings, checked on October 23, 2026.
What’s free in Cronometer
Cronometer’s Basic plan is free “for an unlimited amount of time” (Cronometer support), and its free-version page promises “we’ll never force you to upgrade” (Cronometer). Basic includes:
- logging foods, exercise, biometrics and notes, from a database of more than a million lab-analysed or verified foods;
- the barcode scanner: “Unlimited use of our Barcode Scanner is included in a Basic account”;
- dozens of nutrients (the Gold page says up to 95 in one table and 84 in another), with custom macro and micronutrient targets;
- syncing with apps and devices, custom foods and recipes, diary groups;
- reports and charts “within a 7-day window”, and the “Ability to export ALL raw data”.

What Gold adds
Cronometer Gold adds Photo Log (“Snap. Edit. Log.”), Voice Log (including through Siri), Crono Coach, “Cronometer’s in-app assistant that turns a user’s own data, goals, and settings into short, personalized guidance”, a recipe importer, timestamps, a macro scheduler, a fasting timer, custom biometrics, repeat items, nutrition scores, custom charts, the Oracle food suggestions, printable reports, charts over any time frame and an ad-free app (Cronometer Gold).
How much Cronometer Gold costs
On its Gold page, Cronometer prices Gold at “$10.99 USD per month, billed monthly” or “$4.99 … per month, billed annually at $59.99”, which it calls “Save 54%”. The US App Store lists the same “Gold Monthly” ($10.99) and “Gold Annual” ($59.99) purchases.
| Where | Monthly | Yearly |
|---|---|---|
| US (website and App Store) | $10.99 | $59.99 |
| UK App Store | £9.99 | £59.99 |
| Canadian App Store | CA$14.99 | CA$79.99 |
| Australian App Store | A$17.99 or A$18.99 | A$99.99 |
| German, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch App Stores | €11.99 | €69.99 |
All App Store rows were captured on October 23, 2026. The German, French and Spanish stores also listed lower “Gold” offers at €8.99 a month and €49.99 a year; Cronometer doesn’t say who gets them, and the App Store always shows your price before you confirm.
No free trial is advertised on the Gold page or the App Store listing. Since Basic is free without a time limit, most people try Cronometer that way first.
How to cancel Cronometer Gold
Cancel where you subscribed (Cronometer support):
- Website: log in at cronometer.com → More → Account → Subscriptions → choose Do Not Auto-Renew.
- iPhone or iPad: Settings → your Apple Account → Media and Purchases (or Subscriptions) → Cronometer → Cancel.
- Android: Google Play → your profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Cronometer → Cancel subscription.
Cronometer’s terms say that when you cancel during a billing period, you keep Gold until the end of that period.
Refunds
Cronometer’s terms are strict: “There are no refunds for termination or cancellation of your Premium Service. Cronometer reserves the right, but without any obligation, to review its no refund policy upon request and on a case by case basis.” They also give a right to cancel in writing within 7 days of a new subscription, which is lost once you use the service (Cronometer terms). For App Store purchases, Apple handles refund requests at reportaproblem.apple.com (Apple Support).
Is Cronometer Gold worth it?
Cronometer is the better choice if you care about micronutrients, want a free barcode scanner, or log on the web as well as your phone: its free plan already covers more than many paid apps, and Gold at $59.99 a year adds photo and voice logging, fasting and long-term charts without ads. It’s also a good fit if you work with a dietitian, since Cronometer has a professional version.
It’s less of a fit if you find detailed nutrient screens overwhelming, or you want photo logging without paying.
Alternatives
- MyNetDiary: a free, ad-free plan with a barcode scanner and up to 108 nutrients; Premium is $8.99 a month or $59.99 a year. See MyNetDiary price.
- MacroFactor: no free version, but adaptive calorie and macro targets; $71.99 a year. See MacroFactor price.
- MyFitnessPal: a free plan without the barcode scanner; Premium from $49.99 a year on its website. See MyFitnessPal Premium price.
- Calorix (our app, iPhone only): logging from a photo, barcode, label or your voice, with each ingredient and its grams shown so you can correct them. Barcode lookups are free with no daily limit, plus 3 free AI scans a day; Pro is $9.99 a month or $39.99 a year in the US after a 3-day free trial. It tracks calories, protein, carbs, fat, fiber and water, not Cronometer’s dozens of micronutrients.
