Made for iPhone New in Calorix 2.0

A calorie counter made for iPhone: Apple Health, widgets and Live Activities

Calorix is a calorie counter built only for iPhone (iOS 17 or later). It works with Apple Health in both directions, reading your steps, active energy, workouts and weight and saving your calories, macros and water, and it puts your day on the Lock Screen and Home Screen with widgets, a fasting Live Activity, Siri shortcuts and Control Center buttons. There’s no Android, iPad or web version yet.

A calorie counter app for iPhone should feel like part of the phone. Calorix connects to Apple Health instead of asking you to type your steps, shows your day on the Lock Screen instead of making you open the app, and answers Siri. Here’s exactly what it reads, writes and shows, so you know what to expect before you download.

Apple Health: what Calorix reads and saves

Calorix asks before it connects to Apple Health, and you choose what to share. Here is everything it can read and save; nothing else is touched.

Data Read from Apple Health Saved to Apple Health
Food Calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat
Water Water you log
Activity Steps, active energy, workouts
Body Weight Weight you log

Saving to Apple Health is on by default, and you can turn it off in Calorix’s settings. When you delete a meal or a weight entry in Calorix, it’s removed from Apple Health too, so the two never disagree. Health data is used only to run Calorix features: it is never sold, never used for advertising and never shared with advertising partners (privacy policy).

Burned calories, without counting twice

When you set up Calorix, your daily target already includes the activity level you chose, from sedentary to very active. Adding every calorie your Apple Watch or iPhone records on top of that would count a normal day’s movement twice.

So by default, Calorix adds only the active energy beyond what your plan already assumes: a long hike raises your budget for the day, an ordinary commute doesn’t. If you prefer, switch to adding all of your active energy, or none. When Apple Health has no active energy for the day, Calorix estimates it from your workouts and steps instead, and removes duplicate workouts. The same formulas power the free TDEE calculator.

Widgets for the Home Screen and Lock Screen

Widget Sizes What it shows
Calories left Small, medium, large; Lock Screen Calories left with Toasty; macros in medium; water, your fast and a scan button in large
Streak Small, medium; Lock Screen Your streak and best streak, the last 7 days, and a countdown in the last hours before midnight
Water Small; Lock Screen Today’s water, with a button that adds a glass
Fasting Small; Lock Screen Your fast’s timer, with start and end buttons
Macros Small, medium; Lock Screen Protein, carbs and fat for the day
Buddy Small, medium Toasty’s tip of the moment, quick links to scan or describe a meal, and a water button

The buttons in the water and fasting widgets work right on the Home Screen or Lock Screen, without opening the app.

Live Activities on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island

  • Fasting. While you fast, the timer runs on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, switches to “goal reached” when you get there, and shows a short summary when you end the fast. Apple limits a Live Activity to eight hours (Apple Developer), so for a 16-hour fast a fresh one appears the next time you open Calorix.
  • Streak at risk. On an evening when you haven’t logged yet, opening Calorix starts a countdown to midnight, which turns into a “saved” message once you log. More on streaks with Toasty.
  • Meal analysis. If you leave the app while a photo is still being analyzed, a Live Activity tells you when the result is ready.

Siri, Shortcuts and Control Center

Six shortcuts work with Siri and the Shortcuts app, in all 16 of Calorix’s languages:

Shortcut What happens
Log water Adds 1 to 8 glasses, without opening the app
Start a fast Starts your fast, optionally with a named schedule
End my fast Ends the fast in progress
Calories left today Siri tells you, without opening the app
Scan a meal Opens the camera in Calorix
Log a meal Opens Calorix to log

On iOS 18 and later, two Control Center controls are available: one opens the meal scanner, the other adds a glass of water.

Requirements

  • An iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Calorix 2.0 is iPhone-only; there’s no Android, iPad or web version yet, and an Apple Watch app is planned.

Frequently asked questions

Does Calorix work with Apple Health?

Yes, in both directions and only with your permission. Calorix reads steps, active energy, workouts and weight from Apple Health, and saves the calories, protein, carbs, fat and water you log, plus your weight. You can turn saving off, and anything you delete in Calorix is removed from Apple Health too.

Does Calorix add the calories I burn to my budget?

Yes, by default. Calorix uses the active energy recorded in Apple Health, and adds only the part beyond the activity level your plan already assumes, so an ordinary day isn’t counted twice. You can switch to adding all of it, or none.

Which widgets does Calorix have?

Calories left (with your macros and water in larger sizes), streak, water, fasting, macros, and a buddy widget with Toasty and quick buttons. Most come in Home Screen and Lock Screen sizes, and the water and fasting widgets have buttons that work without opening the app.

Does Calorix have Live Activities?

Yes: a fasting timer on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, a streak countdown on an evening when your streak is at risk (it appears when you open the app), and a notice when a meal photo you left mid-analysis is ready. iOS ends a Live Activity after eight hours, so for a long fast it comes back the next time you open Calorix.

Can I use Siri with Calorix?

Yes. Six shortcuts work with Siri and the Shortcuts app: log water (1 to 8 glasses), start a fast, end a fast, scan a meal, log a meal, and ask for the calories you have left today. Logging water, the fasting shortcuts and the calories-left answer work without opening the app.

Is there an Apple Watch app?

Not yet. An Apple Watch app for Calorix is planned.

Is Calorix available on Android or iPad?

No. Calorix 2.0 is made for iPhone and needs iOS 17 or later. There is no Android, iPad or web version yet.
